commentary

Durand-Ruel, New York, sent In the Garden to numerous exhibitions throughout the United States from 1895 to 1942, when it was purchased by Etta Cone of Baltimore. Cone selected the picture from the works on view at the 1941–42 Cassatt retrospective at the Baltimore Museum of Art, which was curated by Adelyn Breeskin.
