commentary

William Preston Harrison (1870–1940), whose father and brother both served as mayor of Chicago, worked in real estate before turning his attention to patronage of the arts. He and his wife Ada (d. 1947) played a significant role in the development of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, making several major donations of American and French artworks.
